Summer Reading Challenge 2017

Build a better world by joining the Public Library of New London’s Summer Reading program! There are two ways to sign up:

  1. Stop by the library to sign up and receive a paper reading log to keep track of your reading. Bring your reading log to the library once a week to get a prize! Prizes will be changed weekly.

  2. Sign up online and keep track of your reading electronically. Make sure you visit the library once a week to get a prize. Prizes will be changed weekly.

This program is for children entering K – 6th grade. If your child is not yet in Kindergarten they can enter our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. For tweens and teens in 7th – 12th grade, check out the Teen Summer Reading Club.

 

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

 Tech Tuesday
Tuesday, August 22 at 1:30pm
3rd to 6th graders

Children in 3rd to 6th grade are invited to a special technology program. Each month we will explore a different technology theme. Space is limited, registration is required.

Dancin’ with Hoops
Saturday, August 12 at 10:30am
Children of all ages

Children of all ages are invited to join Ms. Judi and dance with hula hoops! This musically interactive hula hoop program is designed to inspire and ignite creative movement, self expression, play and laughter. Custom hula hoops will be available for use for all ages.

Under the Sea Finale
Friday, August 25
Celebrate the end of Summer with Mystic Aquarium!

10:30am – Coral Reef Community
Children in grades 1-3 are invited to come learn about one of the fascinating “neighborhoods” found beneath the waves. They will discover that many sea creatures work together, while others have interesting adaptations that keep them at the top of the food chain. Kids will participate in an interactive presentation.

11:30am – Amazing Sharks
Children in grades 4-6 are invited to come learn about fascinating shark adaptations, the challenges they must overcome for survival and the conservation efforts underway to protect them.

WEEKLY PROGRAMS

Summer Stories
Mondays at 10:30am
Birth to Six Years Old

Children birth to 6 years old are invited to join Ms. Michele every Monday morning at 10:30am for story time fun!There will be books, songs, rhymes, movement activities and more. This program will help teach children a love of learning and will offer parents/caregivers early literacy tips to use at home. There will a playgroup immediately following the story time.

 Movie & Munchies
Wednesdays at 1:00pm
Children of all ages

Families with children of all ages are invited to join us every Wednesday at 1:00pm for a family friendly movie! All movies are rated G or PG and lunch for kids will be provided. Free lunch is limited to the first 15 children, families are invited to bring in their own lunch or snacks. Parents are required to stay in the room with their child.

Active Art
Thursdays at 1:30pm
Children of all ages

Children of all ages are invited to join Ms. Christa every Thursday at 1:30pm for an art activity. Every week there will be a different art or movement activity centered around building a better world.

Brick x Brick
Fridays at 10:30am
1st to 6th graders

Children in grades 1-6 can come participate in a variety of building activities every Friday. There will be everything from cup stacking to LEGOS!

August 18: Balloon cars
