PROGRAMS FOR BIRTH TO 5 YEAR OLDS

Read, Sing, Play
Birth to 5 Years Old
Mondays @ 10:30 AM

Introduce your child to pre-literacy skills in this interactive program. There will be books, songs, rhymes, movement activities and more. This program will help teach children a love of reading and will offer parents/caregivers early literacy tips to use at home. All books read can be counted towards the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! No registration is required.

Bilingual Story Time
Birth to 5 Years Old
Tuesdays @ 11 AM

Do you and your child speak Spanish? Are you interested in having your child learn Spanish? Then join us every Tuesday for stories, songs and more in English and Spanish! All books read can be counted towards the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! No registration is required.

There will be no program on Tuesday, April 11.

PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN

Homework Helpers
Monday – Thursday
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Do you need help with your homework or a tutor in a specific subject? Visit the Children’s Room from 4:00 to 6:00 pm to meet with a student from Connecticut College. No appointment is necessary, tutors are available on a first come, first served basis.

Violin Lessons – Full
Mondays & Wednesdays
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
4th to 9th graders

The New London Community Orchestra is pleased to offer free violin lessons! The lessons will be 30 minutes long and held every Monday and Wednesday (you must commit to both days).  This program is full and there is no wait list. If you’re interested in signing up please check back in May.

Star Wars Hour of Code
Monday, April 10

3rd to 6th graders

Children in grades 3 to 6 are invited to participate in an introduction to computer coding. Learn how to program droids and create your own Star Wars game in a galaxy far, far away! Due to limited space registration is required.

Poetry for Kids
Tuesday, April 11
3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Children of all ages

Visit the Children’s Room between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm to celebrate Poetry Month! come make and decorate your own poem or decorate a poem already written. There will be black out poetry, word poetry and poetry decorating. No registration is necessary, all materials will be provided.

Recycled Craft
Thursday, April 13

Children of all ages

Visit the library between 12:00 pm and 3:00 pm to make crafts out of recycled materials. No registration is necessary, all materials will be provided.

Home School Workshop
Wednesday, April 19

2nd to 5th graders

Families with children of all ages are invited to join Miss Ty for a fun and educational program. This month we will be learning about gardening and making terrariums! The suggested grade ranges are 2nd to 5th grade but all ages are welcome to attend. No registration is required.

Nutmeg Book Club
Tuesday, April 25

4th to 6th graders

Come discuss a Nutmeg Nominee book and do a related activity with Ms. Ty. The book for this discussion will be the graphic novel “Roller Girl” by Victoria Jamieson. There will be a small snack provided for the discussion and activity. This program is for children in 4th to 6th grade. Please visit the Children’s Room to check out a copy of the book and to register for the program. Space is limited, registartion is required.

Make & Take Craft
Saturday, April 1

Children of all ages

Come get crafty at the library! Stop by anytime between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm to make a craft and take it home. This month we will be making boats that can float and all participants will go home with a copy of the book “Harold and the Purple Crayon”! No registration is required, all ages are welcome. This program will be held on the first Saturday of every month.

Easter Egg Hunt

Ages 1 -5

Children 5 and under are invited to attend an Easter egg hunt! Come listen to a story, hunt for Easter eggs and make a craft. No registration is necessary.

Brick Builders
Saturday, April 8

Ages 5 & up

Love to build? Then join the Brick Builders! Children ages 5 and up can visit the library anytime between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm to make their own LEGO creation. The creations will be put on display in the library until the next meeting. No registration is required. This program is held on the second Saturday of every month.

Plant a Seed

Children of all ages can stop by the Children’s Room any time between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm to plant a seed! All materials will be provided for this free program, no registration is required. Supplies are limited.

Family Color

Come and enjoy coloring fun for the whole family! Stop by the library anytime between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. There will be coloring pages and materials for all ages. No registration is required. This program will be held on the third Saturday of every month.

Money Smart for Kids

Children of all ages are invited to visit the Children’s Room on Monday, April 24 at 11:30 am for a special Money Smart story time. Come listen to a story and make a craft with Chelsea Groton Bank.

Fandom Fun: Dragon Ball Z

All ages

Children of all ages can drop-in anytime between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm for some Fandom Fun! This month we will be activities based on Dragon Ball Z. No registration is required. This program will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month.

Games Galore

Children of all ages

Stop by the library anytime between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm for Games Galore! An assortment of games will be available for children and families to play. There will be board games, card games, puzzles and more! No registration is required.

Read to a Therapy Dog

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Children of all ages

Come meet Ella, a therapy dog, and read her a story! Please call (860)447-1411 to sign up for a 15 minute time slot. Space is limited.
